Multiple employments
This term generally describes a situation in which a person has several employments that run in parallel or one after another.
Most common cases
Marginal employment alongside dormant parental leave
Secondary employment (e.g. marginal, 8 hours per week) while the main employment is dormant (because of maternity leave, paternity leave or parental leave).
Re-entry
An employee re-joins some time after having left. In this case, there are two main employments one after the other.
There is a gap in employment in between, which the person spent elsewhere.
Purpose and benefits
In time management, a full, independent record is kept for each separate employment.
- The full functionality — records, rule compliance, accounts, calculations & reports, vacation entitlement, balance, approval process, etc. — can be handled completely separately for each employment.
- But everything is assigned to the same person.
- In all important Personalwolke Time screens, for both the employee and the HR administrator viewing them, the employment is offered as a sub-selection in addition to the person. You can switch between employments, and the displayed data is updated accordingly.
How do I create an additional employment?
After creating a new person and activating time tracking, we have the following initial state:
Employment: There is currently only one, which is labeled as follows:
- #1 Primary — The person currently has only one employment (#1), which is primary ("main employment") and active (✅) because the start date is in the past and the end date is open or in the future.
- The display format of the employment is explained in detail under: Activating time tracking → Person with time tracking set up
- #2 Secondary
- Parental leave is coming up, during which the main employment ("primary") will be paused.
- In parallel (at least for part of the time), a secondary employment ("secondary") is to take place.
- The secondary employment alongside the parental leave is then labeled: #2 Secondary.
- Proceed as follows:
- Click Actions ⏷ and select "Create new secondary employment".
- The secondary employment must lie within the period of the primary employment.
- Set the values of the secondary employment as desired and click Person → Save.
- From now on, you can use the selection menu under Employment to switch between the person's employments:
- #1 Primary, #2 Secondary.
